Constant voltage (CV) LED drivers are power supplies that provide a steady, fixed direct current (DC) voltage to power LED fixtures like LED strip lights.

They convert high-voltage alternating current (AC) from the mains into a low-voltage DC output, typically 12V or 24V, to prevent damage to the LEDs.

Unlike constant current drivers, which regulate the current and allow voltage to fluctuate, constant voltage drivers maintain a stable voltage and allow the current to change based on the load.

How they work

Power conversion: They take high-voltage AC (like \(120V\) or \(230V\) mains) and convert it into a regulated, low-voltage DC output.

Constant voltage output: They are designed to maintain a constant voltage, with the current varying to meet the power needs of the connected LEDs.

Load management: For CV drivers, you must ensure the total wattage of the connected LEDs does not exceed the driver’s capacity.

Common uses

LED strip lights and tape: These are the most common applications for CV drivers.

Parallel-wired modules: They are used for multiple LED modules that are connected in parallel.

Decorative and small fittings: Some smaller decorative LED fixtures also require constant voltage.
