EL-TCs – THE COOL RUNNER
EL-TCs range is capable of driving as many as 50 lamps in various TC-DE, TC-TE, TC-SE, TC-DD, T5c, TC-L, TC-F, PL‑R, T8 and T5 lamp combinations! The beauty of the ballasts is
their ‘dual-technology’ that cost-effectively combines both single- and twin- lamp versions into one ballast.
What’s more, the EL-TCs is surprisingly small, yet it is still capable of running cool even under full thermal stress, thanks to its OCC technology and the clever thermal design of its PCB. This feature has been praised by many OEMs and it is widely acknowledged to be the most reliable CFL ballast in the market.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) are energy-efficient light bulbs designed to replace incandescent lamps, using up to 75% less energy and lasting 8–15 times longer (typically 10,000+ hours). They work by exciting mercury vapor to produce ultraviolet light, which causes a phosphor coating to emit visible light, often used in homes and offices.
Key Features and Benefits
Energy Savings: Consumes one-fourth to one-third the power of comparable incandescent bulbs.
Lifespan: Lasts significantly longer, often between 6,000 and 15,000 hours, or roughly 5 years.
Design: Available in various forms, including spiral, stick, and tube, suitable for recessed or compact fixtures.
Colour Temperature: Offered in warm white to daylight, providing versatile, high-quality light.
Performance: While early models required warm-up time, modern CFLs often provide faster, flicker-free light.
Types of Compact Lamps
Integrated CFLs: Feature a built-in ballast, allowing them to screw into standard household light sockets.
Non-Integrated (Plug-in) CFLs: Require separate, often external, control gear (ballast), commonly used in commercial, recessed, or furniture lighting.
Important Considerations
Mercury Content: CFLs contain small amounts of toxic mercury, necessitating special disposal methods.
Environmental Factors: They do not perform well with frequent on-and-off cycles and can experience reduced lifespan in enclosed fixtures with poor airflow.
Alternatives: While energy-efficient, they are increasingly being replaced by LEDs, which are more durable, mercury-free, and longer-lasting.
