Orbik LVR24

The LVR24 is a 24V AC/DC inverter from British manufacturer Orbik.

Designed and manufactured in our ISO9001 approved factory, this new range of energy saving LED inverters is suitable for 24, 50, 110 and 220V AC/DC central systems.

Their design incorporates high quality, fully approved components from approved suppliers, and these inverters are supplied as standard in a compact IP20 polycarbonate housing, suitable for use with many LED luminaires operating from a central system.

This impressive range of LED inverters can allow the mains luminaires the option of night-light operation for use with CCTV systems. The design of the 220V AC/DC version offers a more efficient and universal distribution of emergency lighting, resulting in cost effective and
energy saving lower power systems required.

Central battery emergency modules, often called slave modules, are devices designed for central, large-scale backup power, powering emergency lighting (slave luminaires) from a single, central bank of batteries during power failures. These modules allow for easier maintenance, longer battery life (compared to self-contained units), and are ideal for high-access, high-rise, or commercial buildings like hospitals and warehouses.

Key Components & Operation

Central Unit: A main panel (static inverter) houses the batteries, chargers, and automatic transfer switches to manage the system.

Slave Modules (Luminaires): These units do not contain their own batteries, relying solely on the central source for power.

System Voltages: Commonly operate on 24V, 50V, 110V, or 230V AC/DC.

Operation: In a mains failure, the system instantly switches to DC battery power to operate emergency lighting, typically for 1 to 3 hours.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Maintenance: Batteries are located in one accessible, temperature-controlled, location, making testing and replacement easier than checking individual, self-contained units.

Lifespan: Central batteries often last longer than individual batteries because they are not subjected to the high temperatures inside emergency light fittings.

Costs: Lower per-unit maintenance cost, but higher initial installation costs compared to self-contained systems.

Reliability: Provides a single, robust point of failure for easier monitoring, though this means the entire system depends on the central unit working.

Applications

Central battery systems are frequently used in:

  • Large commercial and public buildings (hospitals, cinemas).
  • Industrial, difficult-to-access locations.
  • High-risk areas where quick, centralized testing is necessary.

Types of Systems

AC/AC Systems: Provide 230V AC to luminaires in both normal and emergency modes.
AC/DC Systems: Use a transformer for normal operation and switch directly to DC battery power during a failure.

Components

Relay Boxes: Manage the switching of circuits between normal and emergency power.

Monitoring: Often integrated with DALI systems for automated, real-time reporting of luminaire performance.
