CDM-T lamps are high-efficiency ceramic metal halide lamps that produce bright, crisp light with excellent colour rendering, making them ideal for professional lighting applications like retail, offices, and architectural displays.

Key features include a stable colour temperature over their lifespan, longer life than traditional metal halide bulbs, and a ceramic arc tube for improved performance. For safety, these lamps must be used in a totally enclosed luminaire that can contain hot lamp parts in case of rupture.

Features and benefits

High performance: CDM-T lamps use ceramic arc tubes, which provide improved efficiency and performance compared to traditional metal halide lamps.

Excellent colour rendering: They offer good to excellent colour rendering and colour stability over their lifespan, with some variations providing a CRI of 90 or higher.

Long lifespan: These lamps have a long lifespan, often around 12,000 to 15,000 hours, which reduces maintenance costs.

UV coating: Many CDM-T lamps have a UV coating to help reduce fading of objects lit by the lamp.

Energy-efficient: They provide a high lumen output from a compact fixture, making them an energy-efficient lighting solution.

Common applications

  • Retail stores and shop windows
  • Offices and public buildings
  • Decorative and architectural outdoor lighting
  • Accent and display lighting

Important considerations

Luminaire requirement: CDM-T lamps must be used only in totally enclosed luminaires that are designed to contain the hot lamp parts in the event of a rupture.

Ballast and ignitor: They require a suitable ballast and ignitor to operate correctly.

Base types: They are available in various wattages and base types, with the G12 base being a common option that allows them to replace older halogen lamps without changing the existing fixture.

OSRAM Licht AG is a German company that makes electric lights, headquartered in Munich and Premstätten (Austria). OSRAM positions itself as a high-tech photonics company that is increasingly focusing on sensor technology, visualization and treatment by light.[3] The company serves customers in the consumer, automotive, healthcare and industrial technology sectors.[4] The operating company of OSRAM is OSRAM GmbH.

Osram was founded in 1919 by the merger of the lighting businesses of Auergesellschaft, Siemens & Halske and Allgemeine Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft (AEG). Osram was a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens AG from 1978 to 2013. On 5 July 2013, Osram was spun off from Siemens, and the listing of its stock began on Frankfurt Stock Exchange on 8 July 2013.[5] Osram’s business with conventional light sources was spun off in 2016 under the name Ledvance and sold to a Chinese consortium.[6]

After a bidding war[7] with Bain Capital, Osram was taken over by Austrian company AMS in July 2020.[8][9][10] Since then, the company has operated under the name AMS Osram.[11]

The name is derived from osmium and Wolfram, German for tungsten. Both elements were commonly used for lighting filaments at the time the company was founded.

In 2020 ams AG acquired the German lighting, LED, and opto-semiconductor manufacturer OSRAM. Since then, the company operates under the name ams OSRAM.

The ams OSRAM portfolio includes light emitters, sensors and CMOS ICs with embedded software solutions as well as lighting systems and specialty lamps for automotive, industrial and entertainment applications. The company mainly address the automotive, industrial and medical markets, as well as selected fields of consumer electronics.
