Constant voltage (CV) LED drivers provide a steady 12V or 24V DC output, crucial for powering parallel-wired LED strips, tape lights, and modules. These drivers convert AC mains voltage into safe, low-voltage DC, ensuring consistent brightness and thermal stability. They are ideal for applications with built-in current limiting, such as under-cabinet or cove lighting.
Key Features and Applications
Common Voltages: Primarily 12V DC or 24V DC.
Main Usage: Designed for LED strips, linear lighting, and constant-voltage modules.
Versatility: Available in various power ratings, from small wattage for home use to high-power industrial applications.
Dimming Capability: Compatible with several dimming methods, including DALI, 1-10V and TRIAC.
Protection: Often come with IP ratings (e.g., IP20, IP66) for indoor/outdoor use and safety protections (short circuit, overload).
Key Considerations
Load Calculation: Ensure the total wattage of the LED load does not exceed the driver’s maximum wattage capacity (recommended to leave ~20% headroom).
Voltage Matching: The driver’s output voltage must match the LED load voltage (e.g., a 24V LED strip requires a 24V driver).
Installation: Suitable for commercial, residential, and outdoor environments depending on the IP rating.
