Description

Liteplan CBP

The CBP is a changeover relay unit configured to allow a luminaire to be operated normally from the switched lighting supply and also when the local 240V un-switched supply fails. The changeover then draws power from the emergency supply.

This can be 50V, 100V or 240V DC central battery systems or 240V AC static inverter systems. The associated control gear/lamp must be capable of being powered by both 240V AC and the voltage of the central battery being used. upon (un-switched) main failure, the main changeover relay de-energises, and the unit changes over to an intermediate state approximately 0.5s. after this period the emergency supply hold of relay also de-energises and connects emergency supply to the load.

Upon restoration of the un-switched supply, the emergency supply hold off relay energises and breaks the emergency supply to the load. Again, after the 0.5s delay the main changeover. relay energises, and connects the switched lighting supply to load.

The unit fitted with a dimming inhibit relay, which can be used with dimming control gear to reset dimming level to 100% during the emergency situation. The module is suitable for use with LED, fluorescent and conventional control gear.

  • Low Profile Compact Enclosure
  • Dimming Inhibit Relay
  • Suitable for both Fluorescent and LED loads
  • Operates with 50V, 110V and 240V DC Central Battery Systems
  • The Associated Driver must be suitable for Central Battery Voltage
  • Available with Strain Relief Cables for Remote Applications (CBP/TP40)
  • Operates with 240V AC 50/60Hz Static Inverter Systems

The CBP is supplied either as a changeover module, which can be integrally mounted within the luminaire, or as a strain relief version for remote mounting. Emergency lighting change over relays with an additional dimming inhibition relay that will restore a fitting that was running in a mains dimmed state, to full brightness for emergency operation.

Compatible with fluorescent and LED loads and runs in conjunction with either 240V 50/60Hz AC static inverter or 50V, 110V or 240V DC central battery systems.

Emergency lighting changeover relays are safety devices that automatically switch luminaires from normal mains power to a standby, emergency source (battery or central system) during a power failure. They allow standard lighting to act as emergency lighting, ensuring safety systems activate instantly while enabling normal switching during normal conditions.

Key Aspects of Emergency Lighting Changeover Relays:

Operation: The relay monitors the “unswitched” mains supply. When normal power fails, the relay de-energizes, causing it to switch the luminaire’s feed from the normal supply to the emergency supply.

Applications: They are widely used in central battery systems or static inverters, operating at 50V, 110V, or 240V AC/DC.

Types & Features:

Changeover Relay/Module: Enables a standard fixture to work normally, but turns it on in a power failure (Maintained Emergency Operation).

Dimming Inhibition: Advanced relays can bypass dimming controls during a power failure to ensure emergency lights operate at 100% brightness.

Time Delay: Specialized relays (e.g., from Acorn Fire Security) include a 500mS delay to prevent arcing between out-of-phase supplies.

Components: They consist of an electromagnetic relay with Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC) contacts, providing isolation between the normal and emergency circuits.

Advantages:

Reliability: High-quality magnetic relays provide automatic, robust switching.

Integration: Can be used with LED or fluorescent fixtures, often compatible with existing dimming gear.

Simplified Design: Allows for fewer dedicated emergency fixtures by turning standard lighting into emergency units.

These devices are crucial for compliance with safety regulations, ensuring safe exit routes during a mains failure.

Liteplan are the largest, privately owned emergency lighting component supplier to the UK market, whilst also shipping their products to a worldwide customer base. Established in 1994 by the late Bill Green, the company was successfully run by Bill’s right hand man, Peter Ray for many years. Peter retired in 2022 and Liteplan is now run by the next generation of Bill’s family with his son, Steve Green at the helm as Managing Director and Steve’s brother-in-law, Jonathan Bell as Director of Operations.

Their Business Development Director, Adrian Spicer is a long standing and well respected figure in the world of emergency lighting. His knowledge and stature within the industry are invaluable to them.

Liteplan’s wealth of knowledge extends many years. Their Technical Manager, David French BSc. sits on the committee at ICEL and works closely with The LIA. Their Product R&D Manager, Osman Özgür Rakibet, PhD, takes control of Liteplan’s product road map. His knowledge is steering their evolution and maintaining their position as the innovators of the emergency lighting sector.

Many of Liteplan’s engineers have worked with the company for over 20 years, constantly striving to progress through the our ever evolving CPD scheme to stay at the forefront of the ever changing world of legislation.

Liteplan proudly design all of their products in-house, making product evolution a constant and seamless process. They employ over 60 local personnel, many of whom have been with them for the majority of their existence and they also pride themselves on their unrivalled delivery satisfaction level.

Their 40,000 square foot factory enables them to carry a huge level of stock, thereby fulfilling even the largest of orders with haste. They recently acquired additional warehousing adjacent to their headquarters near London’s M25. This will fuel Liteplan’s global expansion plans for many years to come.
