Suspended exit signs are ceiling-mounted, often edge-lit LED, or blade-style signage designed for high visibility in commercial spaces, retail areas, and hallways with high ceilings. They are ideal when wall mounting is impractical, offering a modern aesthetic while ensuring clear, often double-sided, direction-marking during evacuations.
Key Features and Benefits
Optimal Visibility: Suspended designs, such as those shown on Emergency Lighting, hang at a lower, more visible height.
Modern Aesthetics: Often feature a sleek, slimline “blade” design with acrylic panels and aluminium housings.
Double-Sided: Most models, like the ones available on Safety Signs 4 Less, allow for viewing from both directions.
Versatile Installation: They use adjustable wire suspension or chain kits to adapt to different ceiling heights.
Technical Specifications
Illumination: High-output LED, frequently offering 3-hour emergency backup run time.
Compliance: These signs comply with standards such as BS EN ISO 7010 for safe condition signs.
Operation: Available in maintained (always on) or non-maintained (on during power failure) modes.
Optional Features: Self-testing or DALI-compatible (digitally addressable lighting interface) options exist for automated maintenance checks.
Installation Considerations
Mounting: They can be fixed to solid or suspended ceilings, often using specialized kits.
Components: Kits usually include suspension cables, ceiling plates, and the sign panel.
Finishes: Common finishes include white, brass, and chrome to suit interior designs.
